About Karen & my approach
Rooted in food. Grounded in curiosity.
I want people to understand their food choices, enjoy eating and feel able to make changes that last.

How I got here
My interest began in the kitchen.
My path into nutritional therapy was not a direct one. With a background in biology and education, I have always enjoyed learning and helping others understand how things work. Wanting to improve my cooking first drew me towards ingredients: where they come from, how we prepare them and why they matter.
That interest grew into a fascination with nutrition, gut health and the microbiome. I went on to train as a nutritional therapist, and I still bring the cook's perspective to my work. Food needs to be nourishing, of course, but it also needs to be enjoyable and possible to make in a real life.
The Rooted in Food approach
The principles behind my work
Begin with what you eat
Food provides the foundation. Supplements or testing may sometimes help, but neither should replace a thoughtful look at everyday eating.
Understand the wider picture
Diet, lifestyle, health history and individual biology interact. A useful plan reflects your circumstances rather than a fixed protocol.
Make changes you can keep
I favour realistic steps and dietary variety where possible. Unnecessary restriction can make food harder, not better.
Leave room for pleasure
Good food is more than a list of nutrients. Flavour, culture, cooking and sharing meals all matter.
Science into practice
Gut health is part of the story.
The trillions of microbes in our digestive tract respond to the environment we create through food and lifestyle. I find that relationship endlessly interesting, but the microbiome is not a shortcut to a single perfect diet.
My work draws on nutritional therapy, microbiome research and the principles of functional medicine. I aim to translate that knowledge into choices that are appropriate, practical and clear.
